Director biography
- Janie Hurley
Janie Hurley is a Los Angeles–born filmmaker, writer, and actor whose work blends poetic realism with an unflinching exploration of complex female characters. After early acting roles, she stepped away from the industry until college, training at The Barrow Group in New York City. While working in fashion and film production, she fell in love with the collaborative process and the urgency of telling her own stories.
That impulse led to Aftershock—her debut as writer, director, and lead actor—a 40-minute narrative drama inspired by her move to London and creative partnership with cinematographer Alfie Fisher. With Aftershock, Hurley sets out to carve space for emotionally honest, female-led storytelling that lingers, exploring the in-between spaces of memory, identity, love, and loss.
