Director biography

- anna Lee

With over 20 years of experience as a health professional specialising in mental health and life-threatening illness, Anna Lee has worked with hundreds of individuals at their most vulnerable, empowering them to share their stories and find safety and meaning through connection. In 2004, they completed a PhD in psychology, exploring the role of gender in how stories are told and received - an interest that continues to inform her work.

Since 2019, Anna has pursued filmmaking at the highest level, completing courses in documentary filmmaking, directing, producing, screenwriting, acting, and cinematography at the London Film Academy, the British Film Institute, and the National Film and Television School. Mentored by director Neil West and supported by Academy Award-winning producers, she is currently Executive Producer on the short film Chimera and has written and directed four short films, including the multiple award-winning Going First, which explores serious illness, gender norms, and survivorship guilt.

Anna focuses on telling stories that illuminate challenges often denied in society, including those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, and health. Her aim is to build bridges across social divides and foster deeper understanding and social connection. Over the next five years, she plans to complete a feature film examining the intersection of arts, medicine, LGBT lives, religion, and mental health, continuing to collaborate with world-renowned musicians and filmmakers to ensure her work is both ethically informed and socially meaningful.
