Director biography

- Garrett Abdo

Garrett Abdo began his career in the shadows of the comedy business, managing the spotlight from behind the scenes. For over 30 years, he shaped the careers of some of the most recognizable voices in stand-up, mastering the rhythms of timing, the anatomy of heartbreak, and the subtle language of reinvention. But after a deeply personal life rupture and the emotional silence that followed, Garrett found himself at a crossroads: continue as a silent architect of other people’s stories—or finally tell his own.

That crossroads became Exit Interviews, his feature directorial debut. Fueled by a script that fuses authenticity with emotional risk, Garrett broke through industry gatekeeping not with connections, but with truth. He wrote and directed the film with a documentary-style realism that doesn’t hide behind style or spectacle. Instead, it invites audiences into the kind of emotional transparency most films avoid—one conversation at a time. With an all-star cast led by Tuc Watkins, Exit Interviews isn’t just Garrett’s first film. It’s his arrival.

Now, his mission is clear: to tell stories that create catharsis, elevate underrepresented emotional truths, and transcend genre or label. Garrett’s voice is one shaped by life, sharpened by empathy, and guided by a universal truth—sometimes the only way to move forward is to look back.
