A celebration of love and resilience, Butterflies follows Quinn and Josh, who met in their high school special education program. They reflect on their prom night which turned a mother’s fears into a moment of triumph. Through heartfelt stories and reflections, this short documentary challenges perceptions of disability, demonstrating that love knows no boundaries and those little moments of joy are always worth celebrating.

Director biography

- Zav Jenabian

Zav Jenabian is an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker born in Toronto, and currently studying Film Production at York University. Zav’s journey into filmmaking began in high school, where he founded the Monarch Park Film Club, volunteered over 300 hours in the Special Education department, and directed a documentary highlighting the importance of social programs for adults with special needs. This project earned him the Media Arts Award upon graduation. Zav has gained extensive experience in filmmaking, including working as a Post-Production Assistant at the Canadian Film Centre. He is currently co-editing a feature-length documentary for Professor Ruben Moller of Emily Carr University. He has contributed to over 20 student films and several CFC short films. His film, The Colour Blue, won Best First Year Film at York University’s CineSiege and has been showcased internationally, including at the Little Venice Film Festival in London, England. Zav is passionate about creating personal stories that spark conversation and connection, exploring themes of underrepresentation.
